Fraser
Walking Tour
Join
your guide for a fun and fact-filled walking tour of the town of
Fraser. Discover the old road routes, Doc Susie’s home, the home of LDC
Gaskill, the Lemmon-Cozens Mercantile, and the old Clayton Café, as well
as some of the homes and haunts of various of the other Fraser
Characters. What was Fraser like when President-elect, and then
President, Dwight Eisenhower, made it his Western White House? Find
the location of that western White House and the famous St. Louis Creek,
Eisenhower’s favorite fly-fishing spot.
You
might be met along the way by any number of Fraser Characters, from
Willie Cozens to Doc Susie, from LDC Gaskill to Ute Bill Thompson, or
even Sheriff Solomon Jones. You just never know.
Minimum
group: 10, at $15 per person, or a flat fee of $150.
Time: approximately 1.5-2 hours
Availability: year-round, but weather dependent

Rollins
Pass Historic Tour
Let
David Moffat travel up the west side of Rollins Pass with you, exploring
the route of his Moffat Road, the Denver, Northwestern and Pacific
Railroad, along the way. Begin your trek at the West Portal of the
Moffat Tunnel at Winter Park. Board your cars or vehicles and travel up
the abandoned roadbed of the railway. Walk along the deserted streets
of the boom-town of Arrow, find the Rifle-Sight Notch trestle, explore
the miles and miles of snow sheds that protected the trains from the
terrible drifting winter snows. At the summit, you’re on top of the
world, as Moffat advertised. The site of the old Corona Hotel will
thrill today, just as it did 100 years ago at the peak of its popularity
with the touring crowd. You’ll hear stories of runaway trains, of
patients escorted personally by Doc Susie to the hospital in Denver, of
exciting events like the coming of the first automobile to Grand County,
via the railway. You’ll also be privileged to find exceptional wildlife
and wildflower viewing, depending upon the season.
You
might be met along the way by Miss Locket Wicker, one of the first
passengers over on the train and owner of that first car into the
county, by Doc Susie, who traveled the train whenever she had a patient
to take to Colorado General Hospital in Denver, or Will Cozens III,
justice of the peace and part-owner of the Lemmon-Cozens Mercantile in
Fraser.
Minimum
group: 10, at $30 per person, or a flat fee of $300
Time: allow ½ day, perhaps with a picnic meal. Bring lots of water to
drink, and a snack as well.
Availability: July, August, September, but weather dependent

Join the Characters for a “Night at the Museum.”
The costumed wax figures will come to life to reveal hints and clues on
your scavenger hunt through the Museum. Your mission will be to find
the objects the characters have lost on their nightly travels through
the museum. Your group will work as teams to locate all the lost items
and make sure that things will remain the same at the museum, just as in
the recent movie “Night at the Museum,” starring Ben Stiller.
This event must be done in collaboration with the
Grand County Historical Association, to arrange for the location.
Contact them at 725-3939 for the Pioneer Village Museum, or 726-5488 for
Cozens Ranch Museum; and 887-9478 for the Characters.
Availability: all year round
Time: approximately 2 hours
Cost: $6.00 per person, or a flat fee of $50 for the Characters. Entry
to the museum is separate
Plan: bring snacks and water for your group for after completion of the
activities
